FOR the fourth time this season, Global Cebu failed to suit up for its scheduled away match in the 2018 Philippines Football League.
Citing “circumstantial reasons,” Global asked the PFL for the cancellation of its match with Ceres Negros on Wednesday night at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
“Please be informed that Global Cebu FC has notified the LFI (Liga Futbol, Inc.) that they would not be able to play their scheduled match against Ceres Negros due to circumstantial reasons that the club has provided the LFI,” the PFL said in a statement Tuesday night.
It will be up to the LFI Board of Directors if it will hand the match via default in favor of Ceres, in accordance with Article 10.9 of the PFL Tournament Regulations, the league said.
Ceres – already declared the 2018 champion – remains on top of the standings with 54 points on 17 victories, three losses and three deadlocks. Global is at the cellar with 5 points on one win, 19 losses and two draws.
In explaining its absence in some of its scheduled matches, Global admitted that the team was not getting financial support from new owner Alvin Carranza.
A runner-up of the PFL inaugural edition last year, Global failed to attend its scheduled match with Kaya Iloilo on May 2 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
The team was again forced not to show up to its scheduled match against Stallion Laguna on May 12 at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna and against Davao Aguilas on July 4 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium./PN
