MANILA — Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go moved to deflect mounting allegations linking him to contractors under investigation for corruption in flood control projects, declaring he is “open to any investigation” and has “nothing to hide.”
Go said he welcomes scrutiny amid reports that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Office of the Ombudsman are looking into possible irregularities involving contractors Pacifico “Curlee” and Sarah Discaya, and their reported joint venture with CLTG Builders — a firm owned by his father.
“I welcome any investigation. Let the facts speak for themselves. Wala akong tinatago, wala akong kinatatakutan dahil wala akong kasalanan. Hindi ako sangkot sa anumang anomalya,” Go said, asserting his innocence.
The senator maintained that he does not know the Discayas personally and had no involvement in their dealings.
“Hindi ko po kilala ang mga Discaya, wala po akong kinalaman sa kanila at wala po akong pakialam sa mga Discaya,” Go said, distancing himself from the couple.
“Hinihikayat ko po sina Curlee at Sarah Discaya na magsabi ng totoo,” he added.
The controversy stems from the ongoing probe by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla into alleged anomalies in flood control projects nationwide.
Both offices are examining whether the Discayas’ construction firm, St. Gerrard Construction, benefited from political connections during the Duterte administration.
Go, who served as former president Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime aide, stressed that his family’s business ventures predate his political career and that he has never used his position to favor relatives.
“Wala pa ako sa mundong ito, may negosyo na ang pamilya ko. Ang tanong po diyan, nakialam ba ako, binigyan ko ba ng pabor ang aking kamag-anak? Hindi. Nakinabang ba ako sa negosyo nila? Hindi because I observe delicadeza,” he said.
He further vowed that if any wrongdoing by his relatives is proven, he would take the lead in holding them accountable.
“Kung may pagkakamali o pagkukulang man ang kamag-anak ko, ako na mismo ang magpapakaso at magpapakulong po sa kanila,” Go declared.
Rejecting claims that the Discayas were shielding him, Go urged investigators to focus on evidence rather than speculation.
“Panagutin natin ang dapat managot. Wag tayong lumihis, ano ’to may cover-up? Ano ’to para ilihis ang atensyon sa totoong may kasalanan? Totoo lamang po. I am for accountability,” he said.
“Please lang, nakikiusap po ako, let’s make those responsible — let’s make them accountable for all this mess,” he added./PN
