GOLD medals in swimming and gymnastics kept Area 8 ahead in the standings in the Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan.
Althea Descutido of Trinity Christian School dominated the secondary girls’ gymnastics by capturing golds in free hand, rg-clubs, rg-rope, and rg-clubs categories.
Area 8 – represented by Nopsscea athletes – also bagged gold medals in swimming. Regan Joseph Garbanzos got three in secondary boys and Mary Louise Lacson, two in secondary girls.
Also winning gold medals for Area 8 were swimmers Jhanna Neri, Xander Porras, Karla Labayen, Angela Figalan, Davene John Suarez, Rene Arvin Celis, Arianna Lim, and Martina Cadagat.
Area 8 also made its presence felt in taekwondo, taking gold medals from Leigh Andee Rodriguez, Mary Angeline Alcantara, Benjamin Pedroso, Caroline Espinosa, Kenbert William Ong, and Lester Paolo Escasinas.
Area 8 was on top of the standings with a 102-65-48 gold-silver-bronze medal haul as of yesterday morning. At a distant second was Area 7, with a 68-62-60 medal tally.
Area 7 got most of its gold medals in athletics courtesy of Charles Largavista, Jennifer Hudieres, Bernalyn Bejoy, Angel Ann Pranisa, Trexie dela Torre, Athena Besana, Ann Quitoy, MJ Maldehuija, and Wallace Estevez.
Trailing behind in the standings were Area 4 (55-53-47), Area 3 (26-39-58), Area 6 (25-24-36), Area 5 (23-36-40), Area 2 (19-24-35), Area 1 (18-22-38), and Area 9 (7-16-19)./PN
