SAN JOSE, Antique – Gov. Rhodora Cadiao warned the public of reports that the Philippine Airlines was hiring personnel from the province in preparation for the opening of the Evelio B. Javier Airport on Dec. 16.

Cadiao, a retired PAL executive, said that was not happening just yet and job seekers may be at risk of falling victims to illegal recruitment.

“I want to warn [the public], the young girls especially, against the reported recruitment of some unscrupulous recruiters,” Cadiao told a news conference at the provincial capitol Monday.

PAL will get from its Iloilo and Manila offices the personnel it will need for its Antique operations, Cadiao said, citing her meeting with the airline management.

“I was informed that in Bugasong and Patnongon there was a woman going around recruiting young girls,” the governor said.

According to Cadiao, the woman would offer prospective recruits of a P700-a-day fee for their training in Manila.

This modus could be happening in other municipalities as well, she stressed.

“I don’t want anyone to be victimized by illegal recruitment,” said the governor.

Cadiao noted that the illegal recruiter was using the name of Jose Lotilla, a former undersecretary of the then Department of Transportation and Communications (now Department of Transportation).

After its maiden flight on Dec. 16 PAL will have regular twice-a-week flights – Thursdays and Sundays – from Antique to Clark, Cadiao said. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
