MANILA – The government has been excellent with its coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) response since the country has been placed under community quarantine, the Malacañang said.
Compared to other countries, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that Philippines did a great job in limiting the COVID-19 casualties amid delay in the rollout of the vaccines.
“I will maintain it has been excellent management,” Roque said in his virtual presser on Monday. “Ang ating deaths na 2.11 percent is katiting ng deaths na nangyayari sa bansang mas mayaman at mas developed sa atin.”
“Unfortunately, habang walang bakuna, talagang maraming mahahawa at may mamamatay. But we have limited deaths to around 12,000. So let’s give credit where it is due,” he added.
Based on the latest data from the Department of Health, the country has a total to 594,412 COVID-19 cases, 545,853 have already recovered while 12,516 died. At least 36,043 are still active cases.
The country started the rollout of its COVID-19 vaccines last week following the arrival of vaccines from manufacturers like Sinovac and AstraZeneca.
Roque added that, after close to a year of fighting COVID-19, the government is already aware how to prevent deaths with the order not to let the vulnerable sector like senior citizens to go out of the residences.
With this reason, the Palace spokesperson said there is no need for the country to be placed under enhanced community quarantine amid the rising COVID-19 cases the past few days./PN
