
BACOLOD City — A 17-year-old Grade 10 student was found dead in a drainage canal in Purok Escarlata, Barangay Lacaron, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, on August 19, 2026.
The victim, a resident of the area, was found lying prone and apparently lifeless in the drainage canal about 600 meters from his residence, police said.
According to the Valladolid Municipal Police Station, the victim’s father told authorities that the teenager was discovered at around 7:50 p.m. The incident was reported to police by the Valladolid Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office at about 8:50 p.m.
The family told police that the victim had a history of epilepsy and believed that no foul play was involved.
Personnel of the Valladolid Municipal Health Office, led by the attending physician, examined the victim and pronounced him dead.
Police initially recorded the incident as an alleged drowning but said the exact cause and circumstances of the teenager’s death have yet to be established.
Authorities are continuing to document the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death./PN
