BACOLOD City — A 24-year-old Grade 12 student is in police custody as authorities continue to investigate the death of a teacher who was found inside his residence in this city on the evening of June 12.
According to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the student has reportedly admitted involvement in the incident. However, investigators were still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death and determine a possible motive as of press time.
In a media interview, BCPO director Colonel Eugene Rebadomia said personnel from Police Station 7 responded to reports of a commotion at the victim’s residence. Upon arrival, officers found the teacher lying inside the house.
Police are also looking into allegations that the victim was forced to ingest muriatic acid before his death.
Authorities emphasized that the details surrounding the incident remain under investigation and have yet to be fully established.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are carefully examining all evidence to determine what transpired,” Rebadomia said.
The identities of both the victim and the suspect have not been disclosed by authorities at the request of the victim’s family and to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Bacolod City expressed grief over the incident.
RJ Paglumotan, deputy spokesperson of DepEd Bacolod, said in a radio interview that the division was saddened after confirming the incident with police authorities.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic development involving one of our teachers,” Paglumotan said.
He added that DepEd would refrain from releasing additional information while the police investigation is ongoing out of respect for the victim’s family.
Authorities have yet to announce possible charges against the student as investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
As of this writing, the suspect remained under police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges and further legal proceedings.
