BACOLOD City — Three minors believed to be victims of online sexual abuse and exploitation were rescued by authorities during a coordinated operation in Bacolod City, highlighting ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children from cyber-enabled crimes.
The rescue operation was conducted by the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC), with assistance from local police units and the Bacolod City Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) on June 4.
In a social media post, the PNP said the operation stemmed from intelligence information obtained through international law enforcement cooperation.
Authorities arrested a 51-year-old Filipina who is being investigated for her alleged involvement in the exploitation of the children.
Following the operation, the rescued minors were immediately placed under the care of the DSSD, which is providing protection, counseling, and psychosocial support as part of their recovery and rehabilitation.
The Bacolod City Government, through its social welfare services, worked closely with police authorities to ensure the children’s safety and well-being after the rescue.
PNP chief General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating teams and partner agencies for their swift and coordinated response.
“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment, free from abuse and exploitation. This successful rescue reflects the dedication of our police officers and partner agencies in protecting the most vulnerable members of our society,” Nartatez said.
He emphasized that the PNP remains steadfast in its campaign against crimes targeting children, particularly those facilitated through digital platforms.
“Hinding-hindi tayo titigil sa paghabol sa mga taong nagsasamantala sa ating mga kabataan. Kasabay ng mas pinaigting na law enforcement efforts, patuloy din nating palalakasin ang pakikipagtulungan sa mga komunidad, pamilya, at mga partner agencies upang higit na maprotektahan ang mga bata laban sa ganitong uri ng krimen,” he added.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other possible suspects and determine the full extent of the alleged exploitation network.
The operation forms part of the PNP’s intensified campaign against the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, underscoring the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies, local governments, social workers, and international partners in safeguarding children from emerging digital threats./PN
