BACOLOD City – For the third consecutive year, Barangay Granada was the grand champion in the MassKara Festival Street and Arena Dance Competition.
Granada lorded over 16 other contingents in yesterday’s Barangay Category of the highlight of the festival’s 37th edition.
Aside from the P100,000 cash, the village romped away with the special awards Best in Choreography and Best in Concept.
Granada also took the much-coveted championship in 2014 and 2015.
Earlier Granada barangay captain Alfredo Talimodao Jr. told Panay News they have doubled up their efforts for the contest.
“The people are expecting a lot from us, so right now we are just really doing our best,” Talimodao had said.
Tangub was declared first runner-up and took home P75,000.
Banago was second runner-up. It received P50,000 and the special awards Best in Costume and Best in Mask.
Pahanocoy and Alangilan were third and fourth runners-up, receiving P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.
Each special award came with P5,000 cash.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced the victors last night in a ceremony that capped the almost three-week-long MassKara Festival.
Other barangays that joined the competition were Alijis, Bata, Felisa, Punta Taytay, 5, 6, 7, 8, 26, 29, 33, and 39.
The Street performance was held on Lizares-Araneta streets, while the Arena performance was at the public plaza./PN
