ILOILO City – A village watchman was shot in front of his apo (grandson) by a still an unidentified assailant in Barangay Luca, Ajuy, Iloilo.
The 63-year-old Rodolfo Graciano died of two gunshot wounds on the head. The gunman spared his five-year-old grandson.
Graciano was walking home with his grandson from school around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday when attacked.
According to Senior Inspector Van Luspo, Ajuy police chief, the lone gunman was driving a motorcycle.
The lone witness to the killing was the grandson but the boy was still in shock, said Luspo.
“We could not yet talk to the witness and ask for descriptions of the killer,” he said.
Luspo believed the killing was not related to Graciano’s job as village watchman.
“Nag-conduct kami ng investigation. Nakausap ko mga tao sa paligid at wala naman siyang kaaway sa kanilang lugar. Mabait daw siya sa mga tao,” said Luspo.
But the police learned that Graciano once had a misunderstanding with a farmer over a land order.
“Ito ang ating tinututukan na pinakamalapit na motibo,” said Luspo.
