MANILA – Green Archers turned on the heat in the final quarter to score a come-from-behind 82-75 victory over Adamson University Falcons in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball semifinals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Saturday win allowed De La Salle University to barge into the finals.
Down by as much as 15 points in the third quarter, Green Archers had a strong start in the fourth quarter with baskets from Rashleigh Rivero, Jollo Go and Abu Tratter to snatch a 63-62 lead.
Green Archers went on to pad its lead to 5 points on a free throw by Benoit Mbala and a 3-point play by Aljun Melecio. Falcons made its last push on inside hits by Kristian Bernardo to trim the deficit 70-71.
La Salle countered with a rare 3-pointer by Leonard Santillan and a dunk by Ricci Rivero to build its largest lead 79-70 before Falcons trimmed the final score on a trey by Jerrick Ahanmisi.
Mbala led the way with double-double 27 points and 14 rebounds, Santillan chipped in with 15 markers, while Ricci Rivero contributed 14 points, six rebounds and six assists for Green Archers.
Falcons had a strong start in the game behind Robbie Manalang and Ahanmisi for a 21-11 lead. Green Archers rallied to within 33-36 on inside hits by Mbala but a trey by Manalang gave Falcons a 39-33 halftime lead.
Adamson continued its torrid outside shooting in the third behind Ahanmisi and inside conversions from rookie Tyrus Hill to build a 52-37 lead but La Salle slowly cut into the deficit behind Mbala heading into the fourth.
Ahanmisi finished with 17 points, while Manalang ended his UAAP career with 16 markers for Falcons./PN
