Group says issues on EJK impact foreign investors’ confidence in PH

MANILA – A group of lawyers has said the issue on rule of law and extrajudicial killings in the Philippines has an impact on the confidence of foreigners who want to invest in the country.

LAWASIA president Attorney Christopher Leong emphasized that while there is a need for the government to curb criminality, it is also important to consider the short-term and long-term effects of how officials and authorities solve crimes.

The group also expressed concern on the deaths of lawyers, prosecutors and judges in the Philippines.

Leong made the warning during a law business conference with a theme “Keeping Abreast with Asian Business Law Developments.”

LAWASIA is a regional association of lawyers, judges, jurists and legal organizations that advocates for the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo has insisted that there is no impunity under the Duterte administration, noting that the country’s criminal justice system continues to be operational and strictly compliant with the constitutional requirement to due process. (ABS-CBN News)
