GUIMARAS – Aside from the different vaccination sites put up in the province, the provincial government here deployed teams of health workers to barangays to reach out to more people for inoculation against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“This is a race against time,” said Gov. Samuel Gumarin as he launched Guimaras’ mobile vaccination for the villages.
Among the provinces in Western Visayas, Guimaras has one of the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates.
“Kinahanglan doblehon naton ang aton paghimakas nga madamo nga pumuluyo naton ang mabakunahan para malab-ot naton ang herd immunity,” Gumarin said.
To achieve the herd immunity by Dec. 15, 2021, the provincial government set a daily target of 3,378 residents to be vaccinated.
“Dal-on naton mismo ang bakuna sa mga kabarangayan,” said Gumarin.
As of Oct. 21, Guimaras had fully vaccinated 31,313 or 16.74 percent of its population against COVID-19.
Noting the low turnout of people in vaccination cites, the provincial government decided to expand the vaccination activities to the grassroots.
The mobile vaccination drive began on Oct. 20 in the municipality of San Lorenzo – 192 residents from barangays Tamborong, Gaban and Aguilar were inoculated.
On Oct. 21, a total of 612 individuals from the villages of Suclaran and San Enrique in San Lorenzo town, Barangays Sto. Rosario, Old Poblacion, Daragan, Montpiller and Rizal in the municipality of Buenavista were inoculated.
The mobile vaccination teams were then deployed to barangays Sapal and Constancia in San Lorenzo town; and barangays Bacjao, Getulio, Navalas and San Miguel in Buenavista town where 684 residents got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine./PN
