Guimaras road project completed for Manggahan Festival

ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Region VI has completed the road re-blocking along San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras section of the Guimaras Circumferential Road, in time for the province’s Manggahan Festival.

According to District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal of the DPWH, Guimaras District Engineering Office, the project will provide better traffic access considering the volume of both foreign and local tourists who are expected to flock the province during the celebration.

“We ushered the completion of these projects, particularly fronting the Provincial Capitol, which will be very busy during the whole duration of the festival,” Nuñal said.

The re-blocked road section, with the total length of 1.685 kilometers, is part of the 8.642-kilometer clustered road re-blocking along Guimaras Circumferential Road in the amount of P101.077 Million.

DPWH is also currently implementing the construction of drainage system along Guimaras Circumferential Road in the amount of P73.096 Million, with the total length of 6.485 kilometers.

Nuñal said that the portion of the drainage, particularly at the front of the Provincial Capitol was completed while other portions were held in abeyance so as not to obstruct the movement of traffic during the celebration.

Meantime, the DPWH Regional Office is continuously implementing the upgrading/reconstruction of various intermittent sections along Guimaras Circumferential Road, which will provide a better and more convenient travel access to various tourist destinations in the province./PN
