MANILA – Guimarasnon volleyball star Jovelyn Gonzaga is eyeing to return to volleyball action in the first quarter of 2019 after being sidelined for over a year due to a knee injury.

The former Central Philippine University Golden Lions star said she is now ready to plunge back to action after sustaining a anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in her left knee in 2017.

“So far so good naman. Sa ngayon wala na akong nararamdamang sakit sa tuhod ko,” said Gonzaga, who is still part of the Cignal HD Spikers team in the Philippine Superliga.

“Hopefully, makabalik ako in time for the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix,” added the Guimaras native volleybelle. “Tingin ko naman ay malaki ang chance na makakabalik ako early next year.”

While away from action, the 27-year-old Gonzaga went through rehab to treat her injury aside from participating in the Philippine Army’s mandated military training for its enlisted personnel.

‘Yung katawan ko may lakas na siya but hindi pa siya suitable for volleyball so double-time ako sa pagbalik sa form ko,” said Gonzaga, who’s now a corporal in the Philippine Army.

Sa ngayon, balik na ako sa rehab at medyo mahirap mag-cope dahil ‘yung body muscles ko malakas na,” she added. “Miss ko na din ang paglalaro ng volleyball kaya todo sikap akong makabalik na.”/PN
