GUIMARAS – This province is now gearing up for the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet to be held in Negros Occidental on May 2 to 7.
The provincial government has allocated P7.6 million for the entire delegation, which will cover the training expenses, food, uniforms, and sports equipment of the student-athletes that will represent the island province at the regional sports tilt.
Ms. Jesa Obligar, Education Program Supervisor for MAPEH of the Department of Education in Guimaras, said that they will field 392 athletes for the WVRAA Meet this year.
Contrary to previous years, Obligar said that in 2024, Guimaras will participate in all sporting events at the WVRAA Meet, thus increasing the number of athletes to be sent to the competition.
Gov. JC Rahman Nava expressed support for the delegation and challenged the athletes to improve their performance.
The governor hopes that Guimaras will surpass its achievement in last year’s WVRAA, where the province placed fifth in the overall medal tally.
The province also took home special awards that include Best in Uniform, Best in Saludo, and Most Festive Delegation. (With a report from the Guimaras Provincial Government)/PN
