Gun-toting reelected village chief nabbed

ILOILO City – Policemen apprehended a barangay captain at a checkpoint in Tubungan, Iloilo. He had an unlicensed gun.

On Monday around 10:30 p.m., Barangay Victoria captain Ricardo Lonquino, 34, was taken to the Tubungan police station.

Lonquino failed to show a gun license, said Senior Inspector Enrie Madrianan, municipal police chief.

Cops seized from the barangay captain a .45 pistol.

Lonquino also did not have exemption papers from the Commission on Elections certifying he was allowed to carry a gun during the gun ban period in line with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, said Madrianan.

The gun ban started on April 14 and would end on May 21 (also the end of the election period).

Lonquino, a reelectionist, became the 76th person arrested in Western Visayas for violating the gun ban.

Having no opponent, he won Monday’s election. /PN
