ILOILO – A farmer was shot to death while his wife was injured. Three armed men peppered them with bullets in Barangay Talongadian, Santa Barbara town.
Renato Destacamento, 43, died of multiple gunshot wounds at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on Friday.
His wife Gerlyn, 40, sustained a gunshot wound on her left shoulder.
The Destacamentos were in their multicab with six laborers when the armed men blocked their way then fired at them around 5:10 p.m., said Chief Inspector Rogelio Ortigas, Santa Barbara police chief.
The gunmen fled on motorcycle.
Ortigas said land dispute could be the gunmen’s motive.
“We have suspects but we’re not publicly identifying them. Policemen are hunting them down,’ said Ortigas.
Responding policemen recovered from the ambush site nine empty shells of a .45 pistol.
“I believe the target was the husband,” said Ortigas.
The male Destacamento was managing the ricefield of the Jao family in Barangay Talongadian./PN
