ILOILO City – The Iloilo provincial government job hire who failed a recent drug test will be terminated from service.
“That is what the law says,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. yesterday.
There could be more drug users in the provincial government’s employ so more unannounced drug tests will be conducted, he added.
The job hire, a male, was assigned at the General Services Office. He should seek rehabilitation, said Defensor.
“Basta positive na, wala na kita sang himuon, we terminate his employment,” he stressed.
The job hire and 99 other capitol employees were subjected to an unannounced drug test last week during a symposium on illegal drugs that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted. They were made to submit urine samples.
Only the job hire failed the test.
“I suspect there are other employees into illegal drugs but are not tested yet. Para effective, gulpihanay ‘ni. They will not be advised when the drug test would be,” said Defensor.
While drug testing is voluntary, those who will refuse could face administrative disciplinary action, he warned.
“So those using illegal drugs better stop their vice,” said Defensor.
In a previous interview, capitol’s Human Resource Office chief Alma Ravena said the job hire will be given the chance to challenge the test result and a confirmatory test may be conducted.
“He has the right to challenge the test result,” said Ravena.
She also said the provincial government will be following the guidance of the Civil Service Commission in handling the employee’s case.
