ILOILO City – Police arrested a resident of Barangay Bigke, Leganes, Iloilo on Christmas Eve for possession of a hand grenade.

Rodolfo Demontaño Maloto, 32, was detained at the Leganes police station custodial facility after officers caught him at around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Maloto admitted owning the MK2 fragmentation grenade, said Senior Inspector Dadje Delima, officer-in-charge of the Leganes police station.

An angry Maloto grabbed the hand grenade while fighting with sister-in-law Elma Senope Dolla, 58, police investigation showed.

Barangay Kagawad Paterno Demontaño Maloto, 64, grappled with his brother for the grenade.

The village councilman managed to grab the explosive and threw it into an open garbage pit, where officers found it, police said.

Officers turned over the fragmentation grenade to Explosives and Ordnance Division personnel./PN
