Haul of firearms, ammo seized in Canlaon raid

BACOLOD City – Police raided a house in Sitio Canoque, Barangay Binalbagan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental around 10:00 a.m. Thursday to seize a cache of illegal firearms.

Arrested was Ariston Labandero Barquio, 56, of Sitio Canoque, Barangay Binalbagan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

Confiscated from Barquio were 1 homemade shotgun; 1 magazine for an improvised shotgun; 12 live bullets of 12-gauge shotgun; 1 improvised shotgun, sulpak; 6 live bullets of 20-gauge shotgun; 1 Smith and Wesson caliber .357 without serial number; 15 live ammos for .357 caliber; 10 live bullets  for caliber .38 caliber; and 5 empty shells of .38 caliber.

The combined elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7, Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU)-Police Regional Office 7, Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office-Provincial Intelligence Branch (NOPPO-PIB) and the Canlaon City Police Station led by Superintendent Wilfredo Alarcon, Jr. conducted the operation.

Police conducted the raid on the strength of the search warrant issued by Judge Mario Trinidad, presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 64 in Guihulngan City for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The seized firearms have been deposited at the Canlaon City Police Station./PN
