PASSI City – Cignal HD Spikers returned to the win column after defeating ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, in the PVL on Tour on Sunday night at the City of Passi Arena here.
Erika Santos delivered a conference-high performance with 30 points built on 29 attacks and one block, powering the HD Spikers to secure a quarterfinals seat with a 4-1 record.
The victory also served as redemption for Cignal, which suffered a tough loss to the Chery Tiggo Crossovers last Saturday night, 25-13, 26-28, 25-15, 25-15, at the same venue.
“Pinaghandaan namin itong game na ito kasi ‘yung previous game off kami lahat, naging mas composed lang kami sa game na ito at inenjoy lang namin ‘yung laro,” said Santos.
“Hindi kami pumayag (na mahabol pa kami ng ZUS Coffee) kasi pinaghirapan namin ito eh, pambawi lang ito sa lahat ng mga sacrifice na ginawa naming mga players,” she added.
Ishie Lalongisip and Jacqueline Acuña finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively, Roselyn Doria-Aquino added nine points, Tin Tiamzon chipped in seven markers and Cayuna scored six points along with 27 excellent sets.
After failing to close out the match in the third set, Cignal regained control in the fourth, with Santos and Ishie Lalongisip leading the charge to build a double-digit advantage late in the game.
Chinnie Arroyo top-scored for the Thunderbelles with 20 points, Ilongga Chai Troncoso added nine markers, while Ilongga Fiola Ceballos and rookie AC Miner scored eight apiece, as they slipped to a 2-2 record.
Meanwhile, Creamline avoided the ignominy of a franchise-worst three-game skid in resounding fashion, turning back Chery Tiggo Crossovers with a gutsy 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 win.
Alyssa Valdez dished out a vintage performance, firing 19 points to lead the Cool Smashers’ charge. Michele Gumabao and Jeanette Panaga each added 17 markers, while Jema Galanza finished with 13 points and rookie Sheena Toring added six points./PN
