ILOILO City – Three barangays in this city were recognized as Regional Sandugo awardees by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 through its National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP).
The winners were barangays Calumpang and South Baluarte, both in Molo district and Concepcion in the City Proper.
The “blood heroes” were given plaques of recognition by DOH and special citation by Philippine Red Cross for voluntary blood donation during an awarding ceremony at Eon Centennial Resort, Jaro district recently.
Barangay captains Roberto Niño of Calumpang, Molo; Edwin Dumio of South Baluarte, Molo; and Madonna Martin of Concepcion, City Proper were also presented with plaques and certificates of special citation by the city government.
Barangay Ma. Christina in Jaro district also received a “scroll of honor” as previous awardee.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog congratulated the four barangay captains for their support and participation in the implementation of DOH’s blood program to sustain the adequate and safe blood supply.
“I am also hoping that the city government can establish a sustainable program on blood donation because there are too many of us who can donate blood every quarter and it is a healthy practice,” said Mabilog.
On Aug. 15 the city government will conduct a blood-letting program at Robinsons Place Iloilo Activity Center. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
