BACOLOD City – Heavy downpour flooded two major streets and several barangays in the city, forcing mass evacuations.
Neck-high water was experienced on Araneta Street in front of the Gaisano City Mall and in the barangays of Singcang-Airport and Alijis.
The street was flooded as early as 6 p.m. on Sept. 22, according to the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BCDRRMO).
A few minutes later, the northern portion of Lacson Street was also swamped pestering motorists and commuters passing from the 27th Street to Bangga Subay in Barangay Mandalagan.
Hundreds of residents evacuated and several more were left stranded, said BCDRRMO.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia called for mass evacuations in high-risk areas and ordered quick response in others.
As of 11 p.m. on Friday, confirmed flooded areas were: Country Homes, Barangay 27, Barangay 28 Gonzaga, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Barangay 35, Barangay 40, Barangay 41, Barangay Eroreco, areas behind Sugarland Hotel, Barangay Magsungay, Purok Maninihon in Barangay Pahanocoy, Barangay Magsaysay, Barangay Singcang, Barangay 39, Barangay Alijis, Barangay Taculing, Bangga Metal in Circumferential Road, Barangay Pahanocoy, Purok Pagla-um Villag in Barangay Mansilingan, Purok Kasanag in Barangay Mandalagan, Barangay Tangub, Barangay Mandalagan, Barangay Bata, Burgos Circumferential Road, Barangay 2, Barangay 14, GardenVille (LCC), Barangay Masanag, and J.R. Torres (going Las Palmas).
Trucks were going around the city to pick up stranded locals.
Latest records from BCDRRMO showed that 84 families were affected with 6 totally damaged and 20 partially damaged houses./PN
