ILOILO City – “Nakadroga ako.” He was high on shabu, said a 40-year-old resident of Pontevedra, Capiz who admitted raping then killing a 15-year-old boy in Barangay Tinguian, Balasan, Iloilo on Sept. 1.
Redan Gonzales was arrested around 9 a.m. yesterday in Barangay Calapdan, Estancia town. Policemen recovered from him three sachets of shabu and a .38 revolver.
At the Balasan police station, Gonzales told the police he met the boy the village’s fiesta fair. He lured the boy to have sex with him in rice field, he said.
“I sexually molested him and struck his face with a stone. I did it because I was under the influence of shabu. Wala ko kabalo sang gin himo ko kay nakadroga ako,” said Gonzales.
Friends found the boy in the rice field and quickly brought him to the Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital, also in Balasan. There, he was declared “dead on arrival.”
Gonzales faces a string of charges – illegal drug possession, illegal gun possession, and rape with homicide.
According to Chief Inspector Kenneth Paniza, Balasan police chief, Gonzales was linked to a previous similar case in Capiz and even did time at the New Bilibid Prison.
He was also a suspect a robbery in the town of Estancia, said Paniza./PN
