ILOILO – Capitol considers using a portion of the surplus income of 12 provincial government-run hospitals to raise the salary of job order and contractual workers, and upgrading their facilities.
Hospital surplus income in 2016 reached P281 million, according to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, concurrent Hospital Management Office chief.
All the 12 hospitals generated a total income of P546 million last year, the bulk of which (85 percent) came from PhilHealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corp.) reimbursements.
Banias said they asked that P186 million from the surplus be used to upgrade hospital facilities and increase salaries.
The operation of capitol-run hospitals is under the Local Economic Enterprise Office.
In 2015, the hospitals also turned over to the provincial government some P200 million from its 2014 income and P236 million from its 2015 earnings, Banias said.
The P236 million in 2015 was also used to improve hospital facilities and hire 596 additional personnel. (PNA)
