BACOLOD City – An increased wage would be a nice Christmas gift to workers, a labor organization leader said.

The Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union – Trade Union of Congress of the Philippines proposed a P101 wage hike.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Region 6 is deliberating the proposal in Iloilo City.

Marathon deliberations start Wednesday, Dec. 14 and will run through the 16th, said Wennie Sancho, secretary-general of the General Alliance of Workers Association and the Board’s labor sector representative.

The increase in wages if the proposal is approved will be “substantial,” Sancho said.

He vowed not to sign the wage order in case the approved increase is below P30 per day. “This time I’m asking the [Board] to give us a substantial increase in the spirit of Christmas,” Sancho stressed./PN
