MANILA – Christian Standhardinger will not be serviceable to the team that will pick him in the PBA Rookie Draft at least until the end of the 2017-2018 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) season in April next year.

Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions has no plan to release the 6-foot-8 Filipino-German center as it aims to defend its ABL championship, Vice Director Mike Heung said in an online interview.

“He is professional. Of course, he will commit to the contract he signed with us,” said Heung. “Getting Christian (Standhardinger) makes us a more complete team. I’m sure he can help the team very much this season.”

Standhardinger is also blending well with his Eastern Lions teammates, including fellow import Marcus Elliot, the ABL Most Valuable Player last season, Heung said.

“He (Standhardinger) is doing well during our preseason preparation,” Huang said. “He is the type of guy we really need for our team not only for his level and background. I’m saying his passion, giving effort, is the most important thing.”

Standhardinger is being tipped as the top overall pick in the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft after tallying averages of 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while playing for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Kia Picanto, which owns the top overall pick in the Oct. 29 draft at Robinson’s Place in Ermita district, has expressed willingness to tap Standhardinger./PN
