CENTERPHIL Montessori Silver Knights moved on to the semifinals of the Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Basketball after a come-from-behind win over Sun Yat Sen High School 86-83 at the Western Institute of Technology gym.
Trailing 11 points with just two minutes in the Monday face-off, Silver Knights clawed its way back behind 3-pointers by Jedrick Sean Tigres and Lester Valn Paraico to trim the deficit to 5 points.
Silver Knights pulled even closer following a fast-break layup by Mark Cleofas before completing its quarterfinals victory with three free throws from Patrick John Gain.
Gain led the way with 16 points while Ian Gasacao, Tigres and Paraico contributed 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, for CenterPhil, which has won all of its five matches so far in the tournament.
Silver Knights is fighting St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets in the semifinals on Thursday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
“I thought we were headed to defeat after being down by 11 points under two minutes but our players showed their heart and determination to come back,” said Silver Knights owner Mark Plagata Palabrica.
Aside from basketball, CenterPhil also dominated in the volleyball tournament, barging into the semifinals after a straight-set win over Hua Siong College of Iloilo./PN
