ILOILO City Fire Marshal Bartolome Beliran gave the following tips to avoid fire during New Year revelries – most especially for those who, despite the risks, still wanted to greet 2018 with firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices:
* Know where the firecracker zone or community fireworks display site in your locality.
* Light firecrackers away from other easily flammable objects.
* Prepare fire-quelling materials like a bucket of water, fire extinguisher or sand.
* Store firecrackers in areas that are cool and away from sources of ignition.
* Check where police and Bureau of Fire Protection officers are posted so it would be easier to call for assistance if necessary.
