A RECENT interview with an influencer gave her job as an “Integrated facialist to the stars” which doesn’t seem to involve astronauts or being a support scientist for one.
I know the world has changed from the late ‘70s when my options were staying on the farm, going to university, or working in a bank, but surely there are now jobs that are actually unnecessary or the result of an overly indulgent lifestyle.
The world will surely be a better place without influencers and their contributions relating to some fabulous facial cream and with more jobs involving using a shovel.

Three times?
There is a saying that bad luck comes in threes but does that also include catastrophes?
United States President Donald Trump, at the correspondents’ dinner, has said that he wants to return for a third time as President. The Constitution prevents this but it also contains other matters including Birth Right Citizenship that he is trying to get rid of, so it might be time to panic.
It will affect everyone given his enthusiasm for wars and tariffs.

And so the greatest sporting event ever finished with a good, although not outstanding, game. Let’s hope this is the last time it is held in America.
The increased number of teams, from 32 to 48, decreased the overall standard of matches. There were teams playing that were not up to standard, although Cape Verde with only half a million people drew all their first round matches including against Spain the final winner and pushed Argentina to a 3-2 result.
There were problems from the American viewpoint, holding games in the heat, the President successfully asking for a red card decision to be reviewed, and the booing of President Trump at the final. The half time entertainment included many stars who didn’t have enough time to really perform but took too much time for the break.
This may have highlighted football to the world but there were lowlights as well.

It’s my ball
The potential selloff of parts of FIFA’s World Cup program seemed to be an odd idea and the link to the Trump family’s in-laws didn’t clarify anything, but money seemed like a likely contributor to the need for the selloff.
Now there are reports that Gianni Infantino’s salary was to be £22 million plus bonuses. I would be willing to do it for just £22 million because bonuses mean I would have to meet some standards.
Given that Google reports that the average teacher’s salary is about £44,000 this would be the equal entitlement of 500 teachers who could teach him some lessons and maybe coach a few school football teams.
This is, and always was, a disaster. It was, however, good to see many football organizations refusing to play his game.

Selling your soul?
Surely it’s time for FIFA and Gianni Infantino to disappear from the news after the problem of the United States-run World Cup. The latest suggestion is that FIFA is planning to sell part of its responsibilities including World Cups although the details are uncertain.
Who would buy this poisoned chalice? Maybe throwing in an individual FIFA peace trophy might swing the balance.
You will also get a red card reversal to use when your champion player needs it.
