ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has called for a collective community effort to address youth violence during the traditional Christmas season Misa de Gallo (early morning mass) following a series of violent incidents involving minors.

Recent cases of violence, including two stabbing incidents in La Paz and Molo districts and a brawl among groups of minors in Molo, have raised concerns over juvenile delinquency, particularly during curfew hours.

ICPO director Police Colonel Kim Legada emphasized the need for collaboration among parents, barangay officials, and other community stakeholders to guide and monitor young people.

“The recent spate of incidents involving minors underscores the importance of collective responsibility,” Legada said. “This is not just a law enforcement matter — it’s a community challenge that requires a shared solution.”

City regulations prohibit minors from loitering in public spaces between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. unless accompanied by a responsible adult.

Legada has instructed local police units to strictly enforce the curfew ordinance, with violators to be referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for appropriate intervention.

Barangay officials and tanods have been urged to increase patrols near churches and other public areas during Misa de Gallo, also called Misa de Aguinaldo. Coordination with local police units is seen as critical in maintaining peace and order and preventing further incidents.

Parents and guardians are reminded to ensure that minors return home promptly after attending dawn masses and to closely supervise their activities during the holidays to minimize risks.

The ICPO remains committed to creating a safer community by addressing the root causes of youth delinquency. Residents are encouraged to report curfew violations or suspicious activities to the ICPO hotlines at 0908-377-0194 and 335-0299./PN
