ILOILO City – To boost police visibility across the metropolis, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has begun deploying its administrative personnel to the streets.
Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla, ICPO director, stated that personnel usually assigned to office duties will now conduct patrols in places of convergence. The deployment is specifically timed to increase police presence during rush hours in high-traffic and crime-prone areas.
According to Parilla, the move is a proactive step toward crime prevention and maintaining peace and order within the city. Beyond security, these officers will also assist traffic enforcers, particularly near schools and universities where congestion is most frequent.
“We have to utilize our men on the streets to increase our police visibility at mag-assist sa traffic,” Parilla said. “Mag-duty sila at least two hours in the morning at sa hapon another two hours naman para mabawasan ang traffic jam.”
In a recent coordination meeting, Parilla also reached out to Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) director Gaudioso Geduspan II regarding specialized training for his personnel. The ICPO is seeking to have more officers deputized for traffic enforcement.”We asked the LTO-6 to conduct a seminar for our police para ma-deputize ang ating personnel na na-assign sa traffic,” Parilla explained. “This move ay malaking tulong na mapagaan ang traffic, especially sa rush hours. Kasi once ma-deputize ang ating mga tao maka-issue sila ng Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOP) for erring drivers.”/PN
