BACOLOD City – The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is set to issue a show cause order (SCO) against a 30-year-old motorcycle rider following an alleged road rage assault on an elderly driver on Sunday afternoon, March 8.
Under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu, the LTO-NIR announced it is reviewing the incident to determine the appropriate administrative sanctions. The SCO will require the rider to formally explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked in connection with the encounter.
LTO-NIR emphasized that the issuance of the SCO is part of its broader mandate to ensure road safety and maintain accountability among all motorists.
The agency’s move follows the arrest of the suspect, identified by the alias “Papat,” a resident of Silay City, Negros Occidental, who is currently in the custody of the Murcia Municipal Police Station (MPS).
According to initial police reports, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. along the national highway in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental. The suspect was allegedly traveling in the same direction as the 67-year-old victim when he overtook the latter’s Toyota Wigo and blocked its path.
The Murcia MPS stated that Papat then approached the vehicle, forcibly pulled the elderly driver out, and repeatedly punched him, causing injuries to his face.
Responding police officers arrived at the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. following a report from a concerned citizen. Both parties were brought to the Murcia Municipal Health Unit for medical examination before the suspect was turned over to the police station. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
