‘Ignorance results to traffic congestion’

ILOILO City – Ignorance of traffic regulations and the public’s lack of discipline contribute to traffic congestion, according to the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) of the city government.

Elevated public awareness on traffic rules could help, said PSTMO head Jeck Conlu.

The office is initially targeting schools – elementary, secondary and tertiary – then expand it to include drivers of public utility vehicles.

Conlu said PSTMO would tie up with the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education for a school-based traffic education program.

“We will educate students about our traffic ordinances, rules and guidelines, and road safety,” said Conlu.

He was hopeful a knowledgeable populace would be more disciplined on the streets.

Conlu hoped to start the traffic education program this month.

“We hope to create a new generation of drivers and commuters who respect traffic rules and regulations,” said Conlu./PN
