SAN JOSE, Antique – The test enforcement of the amended traffic ordinance here saw the national highway free from illegally parked vehicles.
Sangguniang Bayan member Dante Beriong said there was no traffic congestion since early Wednesday morning (Jan. 11).
Vehicles that used to park in front of various establishments and contributed to traffic congestion were no longer there, he noted.
“Everyone seemed to be cooperating…it’s very encouraging sign,” said Beriong.
The dry run of the new Municipal Ordinance Number 03-2016 that amended Municipal Ordinance Number 2015-01 was part of the preparations for this province’s hosting of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet and Palarong Pambansa.
The regional sporting event will be from Feb. 5 to 11. The Palarong Pambansa, on the other hand, will be held this April.
Mayor Elmer Untaran said traffic congestion must be avoided. He was anticipating an influx of visitors and athletes during the two big sports events.
“I don’t want those coming here to complain about our traffic situation and the lack of orderliness on the streets,” he said.
Forty-three traffic enforcers are deployed on the highways to ensure 24-hour adherence to the ordinance, particularly by the around 4,000 tricycles plying the route. (PNA)
