ILOILO – The Iloilo provincial government is set to unveil one of its most elaborate holiday attractions yet, transforming the capitol grounds into a full “Candyland Christmas” beginning Friday night, Dec. 5 — a shift from last year’s winter wonderland motif to a more vibrant, sugar-themed spectacle designed to draw families, tourists, and holiday crowds.
Unlike previous years when the display centered on cool tones and snowy imagery, this year’s concept embraces bright candy colors and whimsical decorations meant to give visitors a “sugar-sweet Christmas” experience.
The celebration officially kicks off with a fireworks display at 7 p.m.
Beyond the lights, the provincial government has expanded this year’s festivities with a series of attractions expected to boost foot traffic and local entrepreneurship.
A holiday food festival at the capitol park will offer “festive flavors, Ilonggo favorites, and sweet treats” from Dec. 5 to 21.
A Christmas Bazaar under the capitol canopy — running from Dec. 1 to 21 — will feature handmade crafts, toys, clothes, caricature drawings, and classic fair snacks such as cotton candy and popcorn.
Live music performances will also entertain crowds nightly, while candy-themed photo corners are set up across the grounds for families, kids, and barkadas looking for picture-perfect holiday spots.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. allotted P3.5 million for this year’s Christmas lights display, which officials expect to further enhance the province’s growing reputation for creative public holiday attractions./PN
