ILOILO City – This city has strengthened its standing as a competitive destination for business and investment after breaking into the Top Five finalists of the 2026 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit (MBFLGU) Awards of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
The recognition puts Iloilo City among the local governments being considered for the prestigious city-level award, highlighting its efforts to foster entrepreneurship, support existing enterprises and create an environment conducive to business growth.
Mayor Raisa Treñas welcomed the city’s inclusion among the finalists, saying the recognition reflects the local government’s continuing push to create economic opportunities for Ilonggos.
“Ilonggos, we are in the Top 5 Finalist of this year’s Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit Awards by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry!” Treñas said in a statement.
She said providing opportunities for residents who want to venture into business and helping existing enterprises grow remain among the city government’s priorities.
“Isa gid ini sa aton ginatutukan kag ginaprayoridad, ang paghatag sang opportunities kag suporta para sa mga Ilonggo nga gusto mag-negosyo, kag pagbulig sa ila nga mapadako kag ma-improve ang ila natukod nga palangabuhian,” Treñas said.
The mayor stressed that improving the local business climate goes beyond attracting investments, as a thriving enterprise sector can translate into wider economic opportunities for residents.
“This recognition reminds us nga when we create a business-friendly environment, we also create more opportunities for our people,” she said.
Iloilo City was listed alongside Bacolod City, Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro City and Lapu-Lapu City in the Top Five finalists presented in alphabetical order.
Other finalists in the category are Butuan City, Davao City, General Santos City, Olongapo City and Zamboanga City.
The MBFLGU Awards recognize local government units for initiatives that support business development and establish an enabling environment for enterprises.
Iloilo City’s inclusion places it in contention for the 2026 national recognition and underscores the city’s efforts to position itself as a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and businesses./PN
