ILOILO City – The city government marked a major milestone in child development and family welfare with the first-ever citywide Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Family Day recently, gathering families from all seven districts to celebrate learning, play, and togetherness as the foundation of strong communities.
Mayor Raisa Treñas led the event, describing it as more than a recreational activity.
“This is a strong reminder of the importance of family — of spending time together, learning, and playing the simple games that bring joy and connection among our children and parents,” she said.
Treñas underscored that family engagement is essential to early childhood success, stressing that unity among parents, teachers, and the government ensures lasting progress.
“Nalipay gid ako nga makita nga tingob ang tanan nga distrito sang aton syudad. Ini nga aktibidad nagapakita nga kun magbinuligay kita, mas madamo pa kita mahimo para sa aton kabataan kag pamilya,” she added.
The mayor also reaffirmed the city’s continuing investment in daycare education and teacher training programs in partnership with the Department of Education, saying these efforts aim to give every child a strong start in learning.
Iloilo City’s initiatives in promoting child welfare have already gained national attention, as it was named a finalist for the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly City under the Highly Urbanized City category.
“Ini nga pagkilala isa ka inspirasyon sa aton tanan nga magpadayon sa paghatag sang pinakamaayo nga serbisyo para sa aton mga kabataan,” Treñas said, reiterating that nurturing children means securing the city’s future. “Ang mga kabataan amo ang future sang aton syudad kag pungsod.
