Iloilo City Council bats for Geduspan as LTO-6 chief

ILOILO City — The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution endorsing Ilonggo lawyer Gaudioso Geduspan II of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas as next regional director of the agency.

The resolution, introduced by Councilor Ely Estante Jr., cited Geduspan’s “competence, integrity, and decisiveness in the discharge of his functions.”

“(Geduspan) has endeared himself to the players in the land transportation sector, including motor vehicle owners and drivers as well as local government officials because of his openness to dialogue and skill in attaining a common acceptable ground on various contentious issues affecting the land transportation sector,” the resolution further read.

Geduspan is a career civil servant who has served the LTO for many years in various capacities, the last of which was as Assistant Regional Director.

Just this July 7, Geduspan was promoted to the rank of Director II. This qualified him to be appointed to the position of regional director.

Councilor Romel Duron, however, pointed out that there is still another person occupying the LTO-6 top post, Regional Director Eric Tabaldo.

Since the LTO can have only one regional director per region, either Tabaldo or the newly promoted Geduspan must be reassigned, Duron said.

The Estante resolution stressed that reassigning Geduspan to another region could be counter-productive for Western Visayas’ land transport sector but his retention “will ensure the continued harmonious relations among the land transportation sector players which is vital in this crucial and critical period in our national experience.”

The resolution was principally addressed to Secretary Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation./PN
