ILOILO City – With aspirations of becoming a premier sports tourism destination, Iloilo City is hosting the 2nd International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Action Air World Championship from July 26 to August 3, 2025.
The high-level international competition is expected to attract over 700 top-tier local and foreign shooters, reinforcing Iloilo’s growing reputation for successfully handling global-scale sporting events.
The city government formalized its hosting duties through a Memorandum of Agreement signed on June 20 with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) and the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA). Signatories included Mayor Jerry Treñas, IFFI chairman Rito Peña, IFFI president Allan Ryan Tan, and PPSA area director Danilo Balagtas.
“We’re proud to welcome this world-class event once again,” said Treñas. “It reflects the trust of international organizers in Iloilo’s capability, and it will bring substantial benefits to our economy, particularly in tourism, hospitality, and services.”
This marks the second time Iloilo City will host the IPSC Action Air World Championship, a fast-paced precision shooting competition that uses airsoft pistols and follows IPSC rules. Known for its technical demands and split-second accuracy, the event draws elite shooters from around the globe.
To accommodate the influx of guests, city officials are ramping up preparations, including logistical coordination with national agencies and upgrades to public facilities.
“We’re not just preparing for a sporting event — we’re preparing to show Iloilo to the world,” Treñas added.
IFFI leaders said this year’s championship will also feature expanded side events designed to promote Ilonggo culture, cuisine, and local enterprises, integrating sports with cultural tourism.
With ongoing infrastructure development and sustained promotional efforts, city officials are positioning Iloilo as a competitive venue for international events — part of a broader vision to boost its visibility and economic vitality through sports tourism./PN
