ILOILO City – For giving honor to the city, the city government feted three Ilonggo powerlifting champions.
Siblings Xian Hijastro and Candice Hijastro and Razel Paredes shone in the recent 2017 National Open Age Group Powerlifting Championships.
Xian won the gold medal in 66-kg Weight Class for Junior Men category while Candice won the silver medal in 57-kg Weight Class for Sub-Junior Women category.
On the other hand, Paredes bagged a silver medal 63-kg Weight Class for Junior Women category.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog hoped the outstanding Ilonggo athletes will inspire the youth to go into sports.
“We can excel in sports for as long as we focus on the good things,” said Mabilog.
He gave the medallists certificates of appreciation.
Sports Development Officer Rommel Castro said the awardees brought honor and pride to Ilonggos.
“The fact that they garnered the awards in a national competition is already an honor for us. This will encourage aspiring athletes to go into powerlifting,” he said.
