Manila – The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday filed rebellion charges against 11 people, including the matriarch of Maute brothers, following the terrorist group’s attack in Marawi City.
Charged with rebellion raps before the Misamis Oriental Regional Trial Court were Ominta Romato Maute, also known as Farhana, mother of Maute brother Omar and Abdullah; Marawi City mayor Fajad Salic; Sumaya Bangkit Masakal; Radiea Tugosa Asire; Mariam Ibnu Abubakar; Zafeerah Rosales Musa; Nehreen Macaraya Abdul; Nora Moctar Limgas; Mardiyya Haji Ali; Sumayya Lawi Ali; and Noronisa Haji Camal.
DOJ secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said the accused had connivance with ISIS-inspired Maute group.
Farhana, who was arrested in Lanao del Sur on Friday, served as the terrorist group’s “adviser, financier, and provider owing to her vast financial resources drawn locally and abroad.”
The Maute group, also known as the Islamic State of Lanao, is a radical Islamist group composed of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front guerrillas and some foreign fighters.
The group, which has pledged its allegiance to ISIS, launched an attack against the foreign troops in Marawi City on May 23./PN
