ILOILO City – Mayor Raisa Treñas has ordered the reconstitution of the Iloilo City Local Price Coordinating Council (ICPCC) to tighten monitoring of prices and supply of basic goods and petroleum products amid rising global fuel costs that could trigger local price increases.
The directive, contained in Executive Order No. 033, Series of 2026, aims to prevent unreasonable price hikes, hoarding, and profiteering while ensuring that essential commodities remain adequately supplied and reasonably priced in the city.
Treñas said the move forms part of the city government’s continuing effort to shield Ilonggo consumers from unfair pricing practices in the market.
The mayor noted that rising fuel prices in the international market could push up the cost of basic goods locally, making closer monitoring and coordination among agencies necessary.
“Para masiguro nga may bastante nga supply sang mga basic necessities kag husto kag patas ang presyo sa merkado,” Treñas said.
The executive order cited the need to address possible market abuses such as hoarding, profiteering, and illegal price manipulation, in line with Republic Act No. 7581, or the Price Act.
Under the order, the mayor will serve as chairperson of the council, while the regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will act as co-chairperson.
Members of the council include representatives from national government agencies such as the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), along with key offices of the Iloilo City Government.
The ICPCC is tasked to closely track price movements of basic, essential, and prime commodities, as well as petroleum products and other related goods.
It will also monitor supply levels, formulate measures to curb hoarding, and recommend policies that would help stabilize prices at reasonable levels.
