MANILA – Iloilo City retained its general community quarantine (GCQ) status for 31 more days.
The rest of Western Visayas, on the other hand, will be under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) for the entire month of January next year.
In a public address last night, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF-EID) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for the new quarantine classifications.
This was the fourth straight month that Iloilo City was placed under GCQ, while Iloilo province, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Aklan, Antique, and Capiz stayed under MGCQ since June.
Duterte announced the community quarantine status for the first month of 2021 despite the fear of possible surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases due to the holiday season.
Based on the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 Case Bulletin No. 275, Western Visayas has a total of 862 remaining active cases out of the 21,429 total COVID-19 infections.
These active cases include 18 additional confirmed cases recorded on Dec. 27.
Basing on the disposition of these active cases, 77.84 percent of the total active cases were asymptomatic, 15.31 percent were mild while 6.38 percent ere severe.
At 387 cases, Negros Occidental had the most number of active COVID-19 infections followed by Iloilo province (162), Iloilo City (128), Bacolod City (82), Aklan (66), Capiz (22), Guimaras (nine), and Antique (six).
Western Visayas also logged a total of 19,921 individuals who completely recuperated from the viral disease while 631 died./PN
