THE Iloilo City Government is planning to establish a “Butterfly Garden” which will be located in the metro’s La Paz district.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the Butterfly Garden Committee, headed by First Lady Rosalie Treñas, presented the design and project location, requirements needed, plans, training, tools, and other essentials for the establishment of the said garden that will improve and maintain the habitat of butterfly species.
“When we were little, I remember how we were fond of the colorful insects we see. Butterflies, with their colorful wings and elegant flutter, are attractions to everyone,” the mayor said.
He noted that the committee consists of representatives from the city government, the academe and the private sector.
Meanwhile, Leny Ledesma, one of the representatives from the civil society, said there were helpful insights from biologists, butterfly collector and nature and ecology experts.
“There were exchanges of ideas on how to make the Butterfly Garden more educational, interactive and exciting for children who can be introduced to biodiversity through this endeavor,” she said.
She added that part of their plans is to make the metropolis a green city with ornamental plants such as sunflowers along major thoroughfares. (with PIA6 Iloilo/PN)
