ILOILO City – This city’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) is relaunching the campaign against noisy mufflers.

Police Office, will operate especially during nigh time until dawn.
Mayor Jerry Treñas earlier instructed the PSTMO and the city police to conduct operations against noisy mufflers following complaints against excessive, irritating and unhealthful sound produced by improvised mufflers of motor vehicles.
“These cause disturbance especially when they are resting. These noisy mufflers should be confiscated and destroyed right away as these violate the law,” the city mayor said.
The PSTMO will use four decibel meters during operations.
The Anti-Modified Muffler Ordinance or an “Ordinance Prohibiting the Selling and Using of Modified Mufflers of Public and Private Motor Vehicles in Iloilo City and Providing Penalties Thereof” covers both private and public utility vehicles.
For first offense, the driver will be fined P1,000. The second offense has a fine of P3,000.
A P5,000 fine plus confiscation of mufflers are the penalties for the third offense.
The anti-muffler ordinance was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) in April 2017 yet. The lack of sound meter devices, however, stalled its enforcement.
The PSTMO started implementing it in 2019 after the city government was able to acquire sound meter devices.
