
ILOILO City — The province of Iloilo has emerged as the agricultural powerhouse of Western Visayas, serving as the primary contributor to the region’s production of key fruit crops in 2025.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 6 revealed that Iloilo’s share for banana, pineapple, mango, and watermelon ranged from a solid 53.6% to a staggering 96.3% of the total regional harvest.
The region produced a total of 218,884 metric tons of banana, with Iloilo accounting for the lion’s share at 69.5 percent. Other contributors included Aklan (12.0 percent), Antique (8.8 percent), Capiz (5.8 percent), and Guimaras (3.9 percent).
For mango, out of the 58,333 metric tons harvested regionally, Iloilo led with 53.6 percent, followed by Guimaras at 40.8 percent. Minor shares were recorded in Aklan (3.2 percent), Antique (2.1 percent), and Capiz (0.3 percent).
Also, Iloilo nearly monopolized the regional output for pineapple and watermelon. The province produced 96.3 percent of the region’s 53,536 metric tons of pineapple and 94.3 percent of the 15,931 metric tons of watermelon.
The remaining production for these crops was distributed across the other four provinces in varying proportions.
Antique claims top spot in coconut output
While Iloilo dominated the fruit category, Antique emerged as the regional leader in coconut production for 2025.
Of the 424,453 metric tons produced across Western Visayas, Antique contributed 29.3 percent. It was followed closely by Capiz at 29.0 percent and Iloilo at 20.3 percent. Aklan and Guimaras rounded out the regional total with contributions of 12.8 percent and 8.6 percent, respectively./PN
