ILOILO — The provincial government has poured over P26.2 million into 14 school projects in Badiangan town, underscoring Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.’s declaration that education remains the province’s top priority despite devolution.
The newly inaugurated facilities, funded by the Provincial School Board (PSB), include covered gyms in seven schools, water systems in Badiangan National High School and Odiongan Elementary School, new classrooms, perimeter fences, slope protection, and concrete pathways to improve school safety, sanitation, and accessibility.
“Gina-angkon naton ang responsibilidad sang edukasyon kag eskwelahan kaupod naton ang DepEd (Department of Education) bisan indi na sya devolved nga ubra sang aton local government units… Kay wala na mas importante pa sa pag-alam sang aton mga kabataan. Ubuson naton ang pwersa naton kapin pa sang special education fund to make a difference,” said Defensor during the turnover ceremony.
For Tina Elementary School Principal Maryfe Panaligan, the projects go beyond physical structures.
“These infrastructure projects are more than just building or facilities, they represent a commitment to providing safe, conducive, and supportive environments for our school children to learn and grow,” she said.
Parents and teachers echoed their support. Federated PTA president Narciso Pios stressed the value of cooperation: “Our joint effort will provide greater service to our schools. You can trust our leaders to work with honesty, transparency, and integrity. Let this community unite to prioritize the welfare of our students.”
Meanwhile, Joy Abelo, Master Teacher II of Tina Elementary School, said the new gym and stage will benefit the entire district. “These facilities will enrich educational experiences by providing venues for sports and school programs,” she noted.
Badiangan’s Mayor Suzette Mamon hailed the projects as proof that progress is reaching their fourth-class municipality.
“We are committed to advancing with these vital infrastructure projects, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth,” she said./PN
