ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Government is stepping up its campaign for environmental protection and climate resilience with a series of provincewide activities throughout November, ranging from community cleanups and energy conservation to waste management and climate change education.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), the initiative seeks to translate environmental awareness into concrete action as the province simultaneously observes Provincial Environmental Awareness Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week.
The monthlong observance is mandated under Provincial Ordinance No. 2026-354, while Climate Change Consciousness Week will be marked from November 17 to 21.
“This November 2026, we’re turning awareness into action and making every little step count for a greener, cleaner, and more climate-resilient Iloilo,” PGENRO said in a statement.
The campaign will kick off on November 9 with a provincewide Limpyo Dalanon cleanup drive, encouraging communities to participate in maintaining cleaner surroundings.
A monthlong exhibit on a very strong El Niño event will run from November 9 to 30, highlighting climate-related concerns, while an Environmental Reels Contest from November 9 to 24 will promote environmental advocacy through digital platforms.
The provincial government will also implement a Provincial Lights Off Hour from November 16 to 20 to encourage energy conservation.
A Circular Economy Week Exhibit, scheduled for November 17 to 21, will highlight sustainable resource use and waste reduction.
Environmental advocacy activities will extend to Barangay Calagnaan Island in Carles, Iloilo, where Hutik sa Kabukiran kag Kadagatan will be held on November 19 and 20.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board will convene on November 24 to discuss matters concerning waste management.
The celebration will culminate on November 26 with the Gawad Probinsya sa Palibot 2026 awarding ceremony at Casa Real de Iloilo, recognizing contributions to environmental protection./PN
